Power Caps
whats the con to using a power cap?
my amp is a kicker zx750.1 mono certified power at 925 watts and has 80amp fuse,this is going in a chevy tahoe i think my alternator is 105amp so my question is if i do not opt to getting a power cap what will happen, or is my alt. sufficent to sustain that power draw.
There’s really no con other than it’s not going to do anything for you.
I have a bag of air I will sell you for $50 that will be just as helpful as a capacitor.
They don’t have a measurable effect on the capability of a charging system. If anything their contribution is slightly negative in the fact that all they do is transfer a very small spark of energy from the alternator to the cap and store it for a short period of time. As with any energy transfer/storage process there will be SOME amount of loss.
If your alternator is sufficient to do the job the cap won’t hurt anything.
If your alternator is insufficient a cap won’t improve the situation.
the zx750.1 is not a powerful enough amplifier to require electrical system mods on its own. your stock charging system should be adequate.
